Up and Running

So, my mom finally decided yesterday that it was time to get out and go running with me, even if it is cold. She made a goal for herself that she will run a half-marathon on May 3rd.

This is quite ambitious for my mom. She is not a "runner." She is not built like a runner. She's built more for Scrabble.

However, I am her devoted training partner, and I'm going to whip her into shape! We need to build up her endurance because the longest distance she has ever run is a little over 4 miles. And we need to speed her up because she is a SLOW POKE! Soon she should have a sleek physique like my own (see picture).

So on the left is our widget that shows how far we've run together, and how far our last workout was. Goal: 13.1 miles (21 km), no walking, May 3rd! My friend Simba's mom ran a half marathon and made a blog about it, which is very interesting and helpful for my mom!

I love running. My favorite part is getting as far away as possible from the nearest garbage can, and taking a dump. Then my mom has to carry around the poopie bag while we run. I have mapped out our routes and strategically figured out the best locations for this.

Lenny, if you ever come running in our neighborhood, me n Teka can map out the spots where: If there are two of you and you are walking route (a,b,c,d) where can each of you poop so that muzzer spends the maximum time carrying poop with the shortest possible times between dumpsite for dog 1(me) to dumpsite for dog 2 (Teka)! It has a very easy formula that we can share if you want.

Hi, Lenny!
Good job helping your mom! Sure she is going to do it great!
I am not a runner. I am always on leash and my mom is not a runner so I have to be right at her side!

That is excellent planning, Lenny. You have every detail covered.

Good luck to your mom in her half marathon training. I really admire her for doing that. It is not an easy task, even for the best of runners. My mom used to jog, not run, a lot when she was considerably younger. Now she can barely walk. Our walking program goal is three miles. We are getting close.

Love and Koobuss Kisses,

I love runnig...after my tennis ball.

Hope you help your mom with her training. Good trick taking a dump as far away from a trash can as possible. We just count the number of bags our girl brings with her, and poop more times than that.

hi Lenny, you are a perfect running partner for your mom. running with a bag of poop has to add to her workout. it probably will keep all of the perverts away from her too - hee hee! we're glad you're doing it with her and that's a great goal for her to do. keep us informed as to how your training goes.

Hi Lenny,

I love to go running with my mom too! And, she is a slowpoke too! Wow, we should ditch them and go for a run just the two of us!! he he! Mom says good luck to your mom, she's well on her way to being ready for the half marathon. Keep up the great training, you'll have her in top shape soon enough!

Kirby

Hi Lenny
I've given you an Award so please check my blog when you have time.
It's great you're helping your mum get fit for the marathon. As soon as it stops raining and the weather cools down a little, I'm going to help my mum get fit too.

Hi Lenny, the only running our mom does is trying to catch us when we "shop" her stuff and take off running! Good for your mom!

I'm afraid Mom would have a heart attack if she ran more than a few feet. She's not built for speed, either. Good luck with your Mom's training, though, and we hope she does well with the marathon.

Funny how this post follows the one with all the dunkin' donuts. :-)

My mom is on a similar mission, but she can;t take me running anymore. My shoulders get way too achey too quickly, so I can only do short distances, but when she gets on the treadmill, I get very excited and bring her all my tennis balls. Then I laugh when she has to dig them out from underneath that contraption.

Lenny,

Wow your mom is totally cool! My ma ape is a "runner" too. She likes the idea that she's built for Scrabble! She's done a handful of halfs and a one full. Alas, I cannot run very far but that garbage can game sounds TOTALLY fun!

You can do it!! I was HM's best training partner!! We've also started running again...no race in mind yet..just overal fitness...Do you have a leash that attaches around mum's waist?? They are great, as it helps your mum run faster with you pulling.

Training tip: HILLS, HILLS, HILLS for explosiveness and endurance!

Man, you are KILLIN' ME! It's funny that your mama is built for Scrabble. My girl is built for Monopoly, so they should have a lot in common!

I LOVE that you've taken on the job of being your mama's personal trainer. Love the widget too. Maybe you'll inspire my girl and I. I run like a maniac whenever I can, but my girl can only last so long and then she poops out.

Goober love & wishing you success,
Stanley
